A life woven into the stone, light, and quiet rhythms of Tuscany.

“I believe true luxury is feeling entirely at home in a timeless place.”
Welcome. I am Isabella Barlocher, and for over two decades, Castelmuzio has been my home, my sanctuary, and my daily inspiration.
Long before I opened Casa Moricciani and Le Casine di Castello to travelers from around the world, I fell in love with the unhurried grace of this hilltop village. Here, neighbours still greet each other by name in the piazzetta, the scent of wild rosemary drifts on the evening breeze, and life turns gently with the changing olive harvests.
I never wanted to create a hotel. Hotels are built on transactions and standard procedures; homes are built on care, generosity, and genuine memory. When you stay here, you are stepping into spaces that I personally restored with historic limestone, hand-hewn chestnut beams, and antique furnishings chosen over years of wandering Tuscan markets.
My joy lies in welcoming you as a friend. Whether that means leaving a bottle of our local cold-pressed olive oil in your kitchen, setting a private table overlooking the cypress-lined valleys, or guiding you to small family-run vineyards known only to locals, I am here to ensure your time in Tuscany feels intimate, authentic, and unforgettable.
The Call of Castelmuzio
When I first stepped into this medieval borgo perched high above the Val d'Orcia, the silence and the golden afternoon light captured my heart forever.
Restoring Stone & Soul
Casa Moricciani and Le Casine di Castello were lovingly restored piece by piece, retaining ancient terracotta and timber beams to preserve authentic village life.
Hosting with Heart
Welcoming guests is never a business transaction to me. It is opening my front door, sharing our olive harvest, and introducing you to dear friends across the valley.

A Home, Not a Hotel
When you arrive in Castelmuzio, you do not check in at a front desk, hand over a credit card to a stranger, or receive a plastic keycard. Instead, you step across my threshold, take a seat in the courtyard, and let me pour you a glass of wine while we talk about your journey.
To me, hospitality is not an industry or a checklist of standard amenities. It is the simple, heartfelt art of opening one's own doors. The linens you sleep on have been washed in the Tuscan breeze; the olive oil on your table comes from our own grove on the slopes below; and the recommendations I give you are the places my family and I have loved for decades.
"I invite you not to be treated as a patron, but to live as our cherished houseguest in the quiet heart of the Val d'Orcia."
